2012 Highlights & NY Resolutions
Since we are coming to the end of 2012 I thought it’d be fun
to go over some of this year’s highlights and quickly talk about resolutions for
2013…
Ok, so at the end of every year the two most common things I
hear are: “That year went by sooo fast”
and “Next year I’m going to start/stop….”
Just to prove to you that this year didn’t go by THAT quickly
let’s look at some of the highlights
It was an election year in the U.S and as a result everyone
on planet Earth was subjected to countless annoying campaign commercials.
President Obama finished the race as the winner but the most entertaining candidate award has to go to Mitt Romney who put 47% of Americans on blast and then went on the open a
binder full of women!
Somewhere in the midst of deciding the next President the
world was plagued (or blessed) by the song sensations “Call me Maybe” and “Gangnam
Style”
In the world of sports King James finally broke free of the
Dan Gilbert Curse and won an NBA Championship, Serena Williams proved that she
might be good enough to have a place on the men’s ATP circuit and the greatest sporting event –The Olympics – took center stage in London
For the science buffs out there, this was a pretty good year
for you guys. Turns out the “God particle” does exist. I won’t bore the rest of
the readers with the details but they officially called this thing the Higgs boson particle. (A moment of silence for future college students that will have to
study this discovery…). Also we successfully landed a spacecraft on Mars and sent
the space shuttle endeavor into outer space… but still no trip back to the moon
*scratches head*
On a more somber note 2012 will be remembered as the year in
which gun control laws were again brought under public scrutiny. Victims of
the Sandy Hook Tragedy and the shooting in the Colorado movie theater added to
the blood already shed as a result of gun violence. (Not to speak about the
absurd amount of gun violence on the south side of Chicago)… also Whitney Houston was
the latest celebrity to die from a drug overdose
Some miscellaneous/cool things that also happened in 2012
include the jump from the edge of space by Felix Baumgartner (the Red Bull guy), what appears to be the end of Twinkies and the release of
mega-blockbusters ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.
Finally we can all let out a sigh of relief and thank God
because we not only survived Superstorm Sandy and the unusual heatwave that hit
the east coast; we survived the END OF THE WORLD (well according to the Mayans
anyway) WHEW !!
Turning our focus towards 2013 I found some information that may prove useful as you plan
towards next year
Feel free to add your own 2012 highlights or New Years Resolution
For me the highlights of 2012 have to be Obama being re-elected President of America, and going to Australia for yet another medical school interview at Notre Dame Fremantle in Perth. Two life changing books that I have read in 2012, and that I recommend to others if they havnt read them yet are "The Alchemist" by Paul Coelho and "Attitude 101", by John C.Maxwell. These books have given me great inspiration to continue to pursue and fight for my dreams, visions, and desires. To me Obama is a symbol of inspiration and hope not only to Americans, but to many other people from various nations and backgrounds. His manner, demeanour and background make him the right man to lead not only America but the world.I thank god for another year and that the world didnt end on December 21st.I know the cliched saying that time passes so fast, is used too often, but it is true. In my view this year has flown by due to the intense hustle and bustle of life. I havnt really had the time to sit back and reflect on all the events and happenings until now. But I can tell you this, we are living in exciting and fascinating times. Each the day the world is changing and becoming a more dynamic and challenging environment. In looking forward to 2013 my new years resolution is to try and improve myself everyday mentally and physically and become a better person. Obviously this year(2012) I am currently not studying the profession I desire to, and it has mentally been a battle everyday to even force myself to study the contents of the profession of pharmacy, that I so dislike, but next year I hope to have a more positive attitude towards my current position, and try to go one step further than the interview stage for medicine. I wish you all a Happy New Year, may we all have a blessed, fruitful and exciting year ahead!
